Post 36: In the Bodyshop

Post 36: In the Body shop

If you remember back in November I took the car to the body shop for preparation   I think we all thought the car would be back for Christmas but it didn't work out that way as it has taken a lot longer than expected as the body shop had some resource issues that slowed the car prep down.  It is worth a quick reminder what the car looked like I think. . .
After the paint was removed - hard work that was!
As things progressed inside the body shop the car has progressively got better - I guess they have been applying makeup! so here are some stage images. . .
First application of makeup - a bit rough and the guys are putting some elbow power into the process

Final smoothing - felt like glass when I touched it - really smooth and most of the filler gone
First images post top coat application.

Still a way to go but this looks great and now needs a rebuild to align the panels for masking to add the side flash - next post might just see the some of that but lets wait and see!

Post 35: Its 2019!

It was back in November when I last posted, I have no idea where that went, and to be honest it hasn't been worth posting because not much has been happening - well at least as far as in my garage!

I have been doing some stuff and I think it is worth catching up as it is all coming together in the next couple of weeks and it is worth putting out a couple of posts.

Seats - lets start with the seats because as the car is away getting some attention from the body shop I looked at the seats.

I knew that the seat covers were beyond repair and bought some new ones to replace them and proceeded to take the old covers off as you can see below with the assorted images showing them

Seat back showing the retaining clips - had to keep all of them

This was the best of the covers - not good and actually for a 3000 model not a 100-6

The seat base plate - rust attack in several places - should have expected it I guess

Not that much work, did have to re-create the wings on the drivers seat, but a little ingenuity and black paint and all is well.  I thought after this that I could just assemble them with the new seat cushions and covers but I guess that's why there are experts out there who do that for a living.  So total failure and I had to take the seats and their new covers/cushions to one of those specialists, ex Jaguar, and I am expecting the seats back in a week or so.  As I get the seats back I will post some images of the new look seats!
